Lots of emails have been flying back and forth as to what constitutes a One Hit Wonder and depending on who you ask; a tune could be or could not be a true one hit wonder. Kocen, who is a music nut, threw out his stringent parameters for the Artist’s song selection early in the process. “I started to realize that the fun arguments that people have over “Best of” lists needed to be hashed out by the patrons and not me. My parameter became as long as the song was on a One Hit Wonder List, that’s good enough for me!”
The enthusiasm has been potent from participating artists. Like the patrons who will attend this exhibit, the artists enjoyed taking walks down memory lane or putting a pause on their focus and direction of work for this super fun inspiring exercise. Leslie Herman’s Switch Blade image for Link Wray’s “Rumble” is perfect capturing the menace and storminess of the famous instrumental. New comer George A. Mallory has rendered quite a masterfully sexy and trippy painting for John Fred and His Playboys sugary hit “Judy in Disguise with Glasses.” Hometown favorite Josh George took a spin on a tune not on many One Hit Wonder lists but regardless Francis Scott Key’s “Star Spangled Banner” is definitely a #1 smash hit even though it came out before the Billboard charts were invented.
"One Hit Wonders" will be the perfect Summer exhibit for music fans and fans of these artists and yes these tunes will be spinning on the stereo as well as on the wall during the show!
