Tobin G Karicher
Tobin Karicher came to the United States as a boy, and believes that his work was strongly influenced by the classical and antiquated surroundings that he lived in. Tobin started his career in Brooklyn and adjacent boroughs, officially beginning with a portrait commission of French electronic music composer Jean Yves Labat de Rossi. A series of Gothic paintings ensued in the early 1990's, a step ahead of the Gothic culture that exists today. Tobin worked with still life and landscape as well, eventually evolving into atmospheric and nocturne paintings. He also has an ongoing series of Black Hat paintings of which a new incarnation is in progress currently. "I believe that color is perhaps the most dominant force in any painting.Of course composition, luminescence, with concept and rendering being equally important. I strive for a fluidity of paint in terms of application, and a tight harmony in contrast, inferred line, color and overall presence. I feel a painting or drawing should be alive with an inexplicable energy and present very strongly. And then there is beauty." Tobin Garth Karicher 2019
